Job Summary:

The Engineering Technician III will support the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC LANT) and support the application of engineering disciplines to technically support the research and development of new and existing Naval capabilities and systems, technically support development of significant alterations to existing systems, support integration and interface of existing equipment or software into different applications or platforms to support the warfighter, and support evaluation of foreign or non-developmental systems, equipment, and technologies.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Interoperability, Test and Evaluation
  • Research and Development Support
  • Pre-Production, Model-Making, and Fabrication Support
  • System Design Documentation and Technical Data Support
  • Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RM&A) Support
  • Inactivation and Disposal Support
  • Three years of professional experience with degree/formal training or five years with High School/GED of practical experience to include design, preparation, and modification of engineering documents and drawings.
  • Three years of notable experience performing one or a combination of the following duties:
    • Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
    • Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
    • Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data
    • Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
    • Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
    • Develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
    • Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently.
    • Reviewed work for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. 
    • Understand and develop engineering drawings, provide data extraction, and deliver Failure Mode Effects and Analysis.
  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, math, or science; or Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications; or four-year electronics apprentice program; or High School diploma or GED.

Salary:  $80,000 – $95,000
